3D PRINTING & LOST-WAX CASTING FOR JEWELRY

Experience the full magic of lost-wax casting through a modern, professional workflow using 3D printed jewelry originals. In this immersive three-day workshop, you’ll learn how digitally created designs are transformed into solid metal jewelry through one of the most powerful and time-honored processes in metalsmithing—reaching back 6,000 years.
Working in a small group, you’ll prepare a cast-ready 3D printed model, sprue and invest your piece, and take part in a live metal pour at the instructor’s workshop. On the final day, you’ll cut, file, sand, and polish your casting into a finished piece of jewelry you can wear home.
This class emphasizes process, understanding, and hands-on experience. All designs are pre-tested and 3D printed in advance to ensure successful castings and allow you to focus on learning the complete workflow from start to finish.
No prior jewelry, casting, or 3D modeling experience is required.
What You’ll Make
Each student will cast one finished jewelry piece (ring or pendant) using the lost-wax casting process.
You’ll also receive a second identical 3D printed master to take home for future casting.

Design Selection & Materials
To ensure a smooth and successful workshop experience, students will choose from a curated selection of instructor-approved jewelry designs. All designs are 3D printed in advance and sized to fit within the materials included in the workshop fee.
If you select a ring design, you’ll be asked to provide your ring size in advance of the class.
All materials are provided, including professional tools, casting supplies, and sterling silver appropriate for the selected design. Tools remain in the studio for class use.
Schedule & Locations
- Friday, June 26, (5–9 PM): Instructor’s workshop/Atascadero — orientation, 3D printing discussion, and spruing
- Saturday, June 27, (10–2 PM): Instructor’s workshop/Atascadero — live casting day
- Sunday, June 28, (10–2 PM): Instructor’s workshop/Atascadero — finishing and polishing
